“The summer when I became beautiful” on Prime Video goes into the last round. The makers appealed in advance to series fans.
This summer Belly (Lola tung) has to make a final decision: Does she stay with her friend Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) or does she return to his brother Conrad (Christopher Briney)? The first episodes of the third and last season of the novel adaptation “The summer when I became beautiful” have just been released on Prime Video. Fans of the books and the show have been looking forward to the final for weeks, dividing the net into “Team Conrad” and “Team Jeremiah”. It’s about harmless entertainment – actually. Because the streaming provider now expressed a warning to the community in advance.

The official website of the show announced a “zero tolerance policy” on its social media channels. “Let’s get together kindly this summer,” it says. And further: Anyone who operates hate speech or bullying, attacking the actors or the team or harassing other fans on the net or publishing private information about you will be blocked immediately.
“Summer when I became beautiful”: Toxic fan culture
The measure was apparently necessary because fans of the show in the past literally got caught on the Internet. Two aspects were particularly moving the mind: in the past season, the series makers had introduced a new, non-binary figure. Skye, played by Elsie Fisher, does not occur in the novel and attracted a lot of criticism and queer anti-queer comments. Even then, the author and serial maker Jenny Han had commented on Instagram about the toxic fan culture and emphasized that the series stands for inclusivity.
In addition, the triangle relationship mentioned at the beginning creates heated discussions: Which brother should Belly happily spend the rest of your life in the end? Fans of the books fear that the end of the series could deviate from the original in this regard.
Now the main actress of the series, Lola tung, has commented on hatred online. “I am really grateful that it means so much for people, but some become a bit frightening. Please do not threaten to kill someone if it doesn’t work as you wanted. Everything is not so serious,” she said and she assured all fans: Jenny Han made it the best possible story.
