Sven Ottke had a huge guardian angel in a bike accident. From the clinic he now speaks: “I could have been dead.”

The former boxing world champion Sven Ottke (58) apparently had a lot of luck in misfortune. After his serious bike accident in Mallorca, Ottke is now speaking up for the first time and describes the dramatic seconds. “I could have been dead.” Ottke is currently still in a clinic in Palma, but he is doing well according to the circumstances.

“Of course I can’t run again, I only sit for a few time and then have to guard the bed again,” continued Ottke. In the accident, he contracted “a double or even triple shin fracture” on the left leg, which was already operated on. In addition, his shoulders also got something, “probably” also broken.

This is how his bicycle accident ran off

The jungle camp second place from 2020 was on the road on a bike tour and wanted to turn left on a country road when the accident occurred: “You have to imagine the street like a T. Then I was hit by a driver.” However, he was always conscious and was then brought to Palma by ambulance. Now Ottke hopes that he can leave the clinic in two to three days to fly home with the ADAC: “I will probably have to be transported in a wheelchair.”

One of his first visitors in the hospital was his former coach Ulli Wegner (83), who stopped by with his wife Margret near Ottke: “It’s good that he was still on the island. Yes, we are very big together. Comparable to a father-son relationship.” Incidentally, he would like to continue on the bike in the future: “Of course. My e-bike has brought my wife’s brother home. I don’t know what it looks like.”
