After Wolfgang Grupp has made it public to suffer from age depression, Howard Carpendale is now reporting with moving words.

“Dear Mr. Grupp, goals in life are very important. But after such a successful life, you can also create small goals. I know that it sounds too easy – and yet: if you are racing 200 kilometers per hour through life, you can also get forward at 80, but more consciously,” explains Carpendale and adds: “And then you suddenly see how nice this world is. I know.” He himself was “very depressed” for five years.

The 79-year-old already spoke about his illness. “I had no energy anymore, no goals. I didn’t even know what was going on with me. I hardly knew the word depression,” remembered Carpendale. His son Wayne Carpendale (48) finally moved him to rethink and brought him to a clinic in which he stayed for three months.


“The conversations there helped me to bring this voice a bit to rest in my head.” Before that, however, it was difficult for him to admit the disease: “I was an alpha animal in my life. That couldn’t happen to me.”




Wolfgang Grupp suffers from age depression

After several days in the hospital, Wolfgang Grupp turned in a letter to his former workforce. The 83-year-old reports in it: “I am 84 years old and suffer from so-called age depression.” He is thinking “whether you are still needed”. That’s why he tried to commit suicide. “I very much regret what happened and would like to undo it,” Grupp continues.


The entrepreneur now seems to be on the way of improvement. It is “good according to the circumstances”. Nevertheless, it could “take a little longer before I am completely healthy again”. Grupp thanks the doctors and nursing and rescue workers for their support. His special thanks go to “My wife Elisabeth and my children Bonita and Wolfgang, as well as all employees of the Trigema company”.
