Hollywood mourns the loss of one of its most successful film editors: David Brenner (1962-2022) died on February 17 at the age of 59 in West Hollywood, California. This has been confirmed by his wife Amber. His death has sparked a wave of grief on social media. Many of Brenner’s famous colleagues also spoke up, most notably Zack Snyder (55).

The two have worked together numerous times, including the films Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017). “Devastated by the news of the loss of my dear friend and colleague David Brenner… the kindest man, a loving father and husband, gifted artist… you are deeply missed,”

“Avatar” film project with James Cameron and Jon Landau
Until shortly before his death, Brenner worked with James Cameron (67) and Jon Landau (61) on the editing of the “Avatar” sequels. They both said: “We have lost a very dear member of the ‘Avatar’ family, David Brenner, an exceptional editor of the ‘Avatar’ sequels. Our hearts go out to his wife Amber and their children Annie, Haider and Sasha. His talent , his compassion and friendship will be truly missed.”
In Hollywood, Brenner was an extremely popular and successful film editor. In 1990, he shared an Academy Award for Best Editing with Joe Hutshing for the film Born on the Fourth of July.
