These songs have chances of the summer hit of the year
Successor of “Bauch legs Po” was looking for: The official summer hit still takes time. But the first contenders are already available. Who is in the race?
A hot candidate for the 2025 summer hit is still a long time coming. There is still no clear favorite – but there are already some possible candidates, says Hans Schmucker from the market research company GfK Entertainment, which determines the official German charts. “The summer hit is still leaving time. Summer is also taking a little break at the moment”.
It was similar in 2024: “Belly legs Po” by singer Shirin David was only the official summer hit at the end of August. The track (“Go to Gymmie, become Skinny”) kept at the top of the German charts for six weeks. Who could get a closer selection this year?
These are possible candidates for the summer hit
According to GfK Entertainment, this includes “Ordinary” by the American singer Alex Warren, who celebrated his breakthrough with the emotionally charged pop rock song. He has been in first place for seven weeks and is running well on both the radio and in streaming, says Schmucker.
Also in the candidate circle: the K-Pop band Blackpink from South Korea, which with its new song “Jump” gets back from a longer musical break. The singers Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa are adored by millions of fans around the world. “The song is super energetic and a total catchy tune. And a K-pop song as a summer hit would fit a bit because the genre is becoming increasingly popular,” says the expert.
“Show Me Love” (Wizthemc X Bees & Honey), a mix of Afrobeat, R&B and Pop. Schmucker: “The song definitely exudes summer vibes”. And: The track of the German-South African rapper Wizthemc has been stable in the charts for some time.
Other contenders could be the pop song “Be Mine” by the German singer-songwriter Kamrad or “Shake it to the max (Fly)” (Moliy & Silent Addy). The dancehall outribeat number went through a dance challenge at Tiktok viral.
Summer hit is often only certain in the middle or end of summer
A Ballermann hit wave has not yet emerged. “Often the summer hit also spills from the holiday regions to Germany. It often has to build up and have a great fame. That is why it is mostly the case that it is more likely to be in the middle or part of the summer,” says Schmucker. So it is quite possible that a completely different song will end up in the end.
Criteria for the summer hit are, for example: a catchy melody that goes slightly in the ear, a text that you can sing along well and a rhythm that invites you to dance. The viral effect also plays a major role. The experts also make sure that the song reaches first place on the charts.
Katy Perry and Avicii already landed the official summer hit
It is also a tradition that the song comes from rather unknown interpreters – or which one who, at least in Germany, did not yet have a big hit. There are always exceptions – for example in 2024 with Shirin David, 2021 with Ed Sheeran (“Bad Habits”) or 2019 with Shawn Mendes (“Señorita”, together with Camila Cabello).
The famous summer hits in German pop history also include “I Kissed a Girl” by Katy Perry (2008), “I Follow Rivers (Magician Remix)” by Lykke Li (2012) as well as “Wake Me Up” by Avicii (2013) and “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi feat. Daddy Yankee (2017).
