Hollywood: Star chef Wolfgang Puck: “It wasn’t always easy”

He is Hollywood’s most famous chef and a star himself: at the age of 71, Wolfgang Puck looks back on a dream career and at the same time on a traumatic childhood in the documentary “Wolfgang”.

He wanted to let the young people know that “it wasn’t always easy,” the native Austrian told the German press agency and other media representatives. In the Disney + original, the celebrity boss talks about his tough childhood in rural Sankt Veit an der Glan, without running water, suppressed and “terrorized” by his strict stepfather. “As a child, the kitchen was the only place where I felt safe.”

Even as a small boy he watched his mother Maria, a pastry chef, in the kitchen. You have shaped him strongly. “If my mother had made clothes, I might have become a tailor,” said Puck in a press interview. In order to escape the strict stepfather, he left the house as a kitchen boy at the age of 14, learned his trade in France and established himself in Hollywood at the age of 24. There he rose to become a star chef and turned Californian cuisine upside down with new ideas. He has been cooking for Oscar guests for over 25 years, and Puck now operates over 100 restaurants worldwide. His recipe for success: “You always have to be curious.”
