Ellen Degeneres confirmed that she has moved to England permanently because of Donald Trump and raves about life there.
It was actually only planned as a part-time residence. But then came the day after the US presidential election – and Ellen Degeneres (67) spontaneously decided to spend their future in England completely. During her first public appearance since moving to the Cotswolds, the former talk show presenter has now opened openly about the real reasons for her decision for the first time.
“We arrived here the day before the election and watched with countless text messages from our friends with crying emojis”, on Sunday at an event in Cheltenham, English. “I just thought: ‘He won.’ And we said: ‘We stay here.’ “
Spontaneous decision after Trump’s election victory
The comedian and her wife Portia de Rossi (52) originally planned to spend three to four months a year in their “part-time house” in the region between Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. But Donald Trump’s re-election to the US President changed everything. As early as November 2024, the couple had finally moved to the idyllic landscape after selling their California estate for almost $ 100 million in August.
At the event in the Everyman Theater von Cheltenham, DeGeneres directly asked the English moderator Richard Bacon whether the reports on Trump’s role were submitted in their move. Your answer was clear: “Yes.” She enthusiastically described her new life: “It is absolutely beautiful. We are simply not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages, the cities, the architecture – everything you can see is charming and it is simply a simpler way of life.”
The 67-year-old is also impressed by the small details of her new everyday life. “We moved here in November, which wasn’t the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life,” she reported. Portia let her horses fly in, they themselves hold chickens and had sheep for two weeks.
“Everything is just better here”
Degeneres is particularly impressed by the English mentality: “It is clean. Everything is just better here – the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here.” She also regularly shares this enthusiasm on social media, where she gives insights into her life with the animals.
Degeneres is in illustrious society in her new home. The Cotswolds have been attracting international stars for years – from Victoria and David Beckham to other celebrities who appreciate the calm and beauty of the landscape. For Degeneres, the decision to turn America seems to have been just right: “We love it here!”
