“Winning Twiggy for a campaign has long been a wish of mine,” explains Steffen Schraut in an interview.

With Twiggy (75) as a campaign face for its upcoming autumn/winter collection for QVC, designer Steffen Schraut (55) has succeeded in a special coup: the British style icon embodies like hardly any other the spirit of swinging sixties – exactly the decade that also serves as an inspiration for its new collection. Under the motto “Stronger Together – Fashion for Confidence”, Schraut not only celebrates fashion, but also female self -confidence in all its facets. In the interview, he reveals what fascinates him about Twiggy, why the 60s are still fashionable for him to this day – and how he makes the legendary look wearable for every woman.

Why did you choose Twiggy as the face of your current campaign?

Steffen Schraut: Winning Twiggy for a campaign has long been a wish of mine. It has not only shaped the fashion world incredibly strongly in the sixties. Your look is just timeless and still addresses women of all generations today. She is also incredibly versatile: Twiggy convinces as a singer and actress as well as as a designer and podcaster. Who wouldn’t like to work creatively with such a multi -talent?

What inspires her personally – then as now?

Schraut: I myself am born in 1969 and was not yet there live when Twiggy’s modeling career started. Of course, you can’t avoid her as an icon. I always followed her later path and found it inspiring in every phase of life, with an unwavering style of style and courage to personality. She has repeatedly proven that fashion is not just glamor, but a way to express itself. With the age of 75 she still does, I think great.

How did you experience the collaboration with Twiggy?

Schraut: It was just magical! And I benefited greatly from your fashionable specialist knowledge. In addition, Twiggy is not only a very friendly person, she also has a sense of humor and is very cosmopolitan. It was fantastic to have her by my side. Twiggy brings this very special energy, which also inspired and infected in my team.

Your new collection is kept in the style of swinging sixties to match the campaign face. What makes this fashion decade so special for you?

Schraut: The sixties were a time of departure and emancipation in fashion. This rebellious is also reflected in the designs of this time. It was about trying out, discovering other materials and shapes and combining everything again: for example, fur with patent leather or geometric with psychodelic patterns. Old rules were broken and style redefined. Twiggy was the ideal representative for this.

Not every woman feels comfortable in the mini skirt, especially with a more curvier silhouette. How do you manage to make the look of the 60s wearable for everyone?

Schraut: I don’t want to tell anyone what he has to wear and what is not. I also reject fashion dictations. I prefer to encourage women to listen to their inner voice and put on what they feel like. And then it can also be the mini skirt or another part that is inspired by the sixties. My autumn/winter collection for QVC is aimed at all women and we offer a wide range of size. Clear cuts, strong color accents and sophisticated combined materials can be worn by women of all ages.

The focus of the campaign is the topic of “Stronger Together – Fashion for Confidence”. How is the topic of self -confidence and body acceptance reflected in your current collection?

Schraut: Clothing generally helps to highlight the most beautiful sides and to accept changes positively. Even if the body changes over time, it remains a valuable part of us in which it is worth investing. My collection is supposed to give women new ideas for their individual style. Fashion can be a source of strength for you. Anyone who feels comfortable in their outfit often develops a completely new life energy.

Is there a piece of clothing or design element that you think radiates a lot of self -confidence?

Schraut: I would always advise the classics: a well -fitting jeans, a blazer or a white blouse give security and evaluate every outfit. Twiggy told me that she has been wearing black leather jackets for more than 50 years. I think it’s great when favorite pieces become companions. It is the clarity that is convincing. How she combines these parts decides every woman.

Which further fashion decade would you irritate you as inspiration in addition to the swinging sixties?

Schraut: Just like the sixties, the 90s have contributed a lot to the empowerment of women. It was the time of the supermodels, from Naomi Campbell to Kate Moss that set new standards for coolness and visibility. At the same time, fashion became sportier. The rave and club culture bloomed. Stomach -free tops and platform shoes were an expression of a new feeling of freedom. But the conservative chic also celebrated its comeback with twin sets, pearls and minimalism à la Calvin Klein. It could be worth taking a closer look here: How much exciting people is in this fashionable era?

If you had to choose a fashion decade: What would your absolute favorite be?

Schraut: Since every fashion decade has its strengths and weaknesses, I prefer to look for the best of all years. But I live most in the here and now. And I’m looking forward to everything that will bring us the future of fashion.
