The heart of the collection also includes a couture dress from the childhood of the monarch. Visitors can admire the bridesmaid dress, which she wore at the wedding of her uncle Prince George, Duke of Kent (1902-1942). But Queen Elizabeth’s evening wear from the 1950s to 1970s is also shown – including parts of the designer Hardy Amies (1909-2003) and Ian Thomas. Leisure clothes such as headscarves, riding jackets and carouses will also be visible.

Clothing shows their diplomatic occurrence

In addition, the exhibition illuminates the diplomatic importance of its clothing. So she wore a white evening dress with emerald green fold in a state banquet in the Pakistani city of Karatschi – and thus dressed in the national colors of Pakistan.

The exhibition accompanies the book “Queen Elizabeth II: Fashion and Style”, written by the curator. With additional contributions from fashion experts and designers, it should show how Queen Elizabeth II was committed to the British fashion industry.
