As Theo Huxtable in “Die Bill Cosby Show”, the late Malcolm-Jamal Warner is remembered. He did that after the series ended.
The accident death of Malcolm-Jamal Warner (1970-2025) shocked the public on Monday. The actor died at the age of 54 during a bathing accident on a family vacation in Costa Rica. The generation that grew up in the “Bill Cosby Show” with his role in the “Bill Cosby Show” is particularly affected. From 1984 to 1992 Warner played theodore Aloysius “Theo” Huxtable – the only son of the family man Cliff embodied by Bill Cosby (88).
It was the first major role of Malcolm -Jamal Warner after two guest appearances in the series “Matt Houston” and “Fame – the way to fame”.
No long -term series success after the “Bill Cosby Show”
After the end of the “Bill Cosby Show”, Malcolm-Jamal Warner got the leading role in another sitcom with an African-American main cast. But the “here and Now” produced by Bill Cosby did not get beyond a season that ran from 1992 to 1993.
“Malcolm & Eddie” was a bit more durable. From 1996 to 2000 Warner played one of the two main characters as Malcolm. To Germany, the sitcom made it just as little as “here and now”. Many US series share this fate that explicitly turn to an African American target audience.
The post -apocalyptic series “Jeremiah – Warrior of Donners” (2002-2004) ran in this country, but flew under the radar. Malcolm-Jamal Warner acted here alongside “Beverly Hills, 90210” star Luke Perry (1966-2019).
Guest roles from “dexter” to “suits”
From the mid-2000s, fixed series roles followed only sporadically. However, titles known in Germany were not among them, with the exception of “9-1-1” (in four episodes) or the hospital series “Atlanta Medical” (2018-2023).
Malcolm-Jamal Warner was still in business. comprises over 80 entries. He played guest roles in top -class series, from “Dexter” to “American Horror Story” to “Suits”. In the cinema, the actor rarely tried. The best -known exceptions are “Drop Zone” (1994) with Wesley Snipes (62) and “A treasure for falling in love” (2008) with Matthew McConaugey (55).
Directed by music as further pillars
Malcolm-Jamal Warner had built up two other pillars during his career as an actor. He directed the “Bill Cosby Show” with five episodes of the “Bill Cosby Show”. He later stood behind the camera for individual episodes of “The Prince of Bel-Air” and “Atlanta Medical”.
Malcolm-Jamal Warner Video Clips also staged, which leads to his further passion: music. Warner played bass in a band and presented self -written poems for music. In 2003 he published the jazz EP “The Miles Long Mixtape”. For a cover version of Stevie Wonders (75) “Jesus Children of America” he won a Grammy in the Best Traditional R&B performance category in 2015.
Until 1994, Malcolm-Jamal Warner was in private with Michelle Thomas (1968-1998), who embodied his girlfriend in the “Bill Cosby Show”. He was also with Karen Malina White, who also played on the “Cosby Show”. From 2011 to 2013 he lived with Regina King (54), who won the Oscar for her supporting role in “If Beale Street Could Talk” in 2019.
Later Malcolm-Jamal married Warner and became the father of a daughter. He always kept the name of his wife and child from the public.
