Thomas Müller decided: he will continue to play. “In any case, it will be an experience abroad for me,” reveals Müller in an interview.

“Yes, I still want to play football.” Thomas Müller doesn’t think about quitting at the age of 35. “I decided to continue,” explains the soccer world champion on the edge of a shoot for the Rasendünger brand Turbogrün, in which he has been a brand ambassador since spring 2025.

A new chapter is waiting – far from Munich

After 25 years at Bayern Munich, a big change is for the long -time crowd favorite. “It will definitely be an experience abroad for me. I’m really looking forward to that,” reveals Müller. The North American Major League Soccer (MLS) is considered a hot candidate.

“The MLS is an interesting league,” he says, referring to the upcoming World Cup in 2026 in the USA. “I have already been associated with one or the other club – and yes, of course I also dealt with these topics.”

Not a quick shot, but a conscious process

“Basically, it was important to me to take my time,” emphasizes Müller. “I don’t feel any pressure – everything comes out of a positive feeling.” Since leaving the club World Cup, he has been using the quiet phase to carefully plan his next steps. “And we’re on the right track.” However, the offensive player still leaves open where exactly it is pulling him.

Media reports around a possible switch to the MLS have been overturning for days. Accordingly, the contract with its new club could be signed within the next seven to ten days and officially announced.

A farewell with a lot of emotions

For Müller, the change abroad is a significant cut. “I have to say I had a really great farewell,” he looks back at his last game in the Allianz Arena. “What the fans did, but also the club, my teammates, the coaching team – that was incredible.”

He felt a lot of appreciation – “even from league competitors. I also received news from Bundesliga managers”.

The love of the game remains

“We are all somehow children in the Bundesliga,” says Müller. “We carry the sport in our hearts.” Football is and remains his life. “My expertise is in this game – and I try to take the chance as long as my body is still fit enough to play at the highest level. Even if I will no longer be in Europe in the future and no longer fight for the Champions League.” To continue to pursue the stimulus of the game and pass on his experience is a very conscious, new step for him. “I’m looking forward to that.”

Müller also remains present away from the lawn

Müller is also preserved from the football field. He can currently be seen as a “lawn agent” in the advertising campaign “license to fertilize” turbogrün. In the nightly mission he saves his neighbor’s garden. “I really enjoyed the shoot. Everyone wanted to be a little secret agent,” laughs Müller.

Even if his agent activity ultimately only served to fertilize, the green lawn is a familiar companion for him: “I used to be responsible for mowing the lawn at home – even if I didn’t always feel like it as a child.” Today he enjoys nature playing golf or relaxing with dogs and horses. How long this calm will remain before the next big adventure begins in the USA?
