Fermented in terracotta amphorae and elaborated with ancestral methods, this wine of Jorge Rubio authenticly reflects the character of one of the least explored regions of Mendoza.
From the South Mendoza Oasis, Jorge Rubio winery proposes a wine that defies the established and pays tribute to the oldest roots of viticulture: Jorge Rubio Malbec in amphora, an edition of 2000 bottles made with wine techniques used more than two thousand years ago.

Inspired by the ancestral practices of Greek and Roman civilizations, Jorge Rubio set out to reinterpret them with a contemporary look. The result is a Malbec elaborated entirely at Spanish mud amphorae of 500 and 1,000 liters, where it fermented and rested for 11 months. “We wanted to return to the origin, work without new wood, without bombs, with indigenous yeasts and let the wine tell its story as it is,” says Rubio.
The grapes come from Finca Gabriel, the first vineyard planted by the family more than 22 years ago in the El Devio place, in general Alvear. There, at 465 meters of altitude, the vineyard laughs with thaw water from the Atuel River and grows on poor alluvial soils in organic matter, but rich in minerals. The wine profile is born in that combination of nature, time and care.

The elaboration was artisanal and precise: a 20 % entire cluster was incorporated, indigenous yeast was used for spontaneous fermentation at amphorae without enamel, and the traces were made manually, without pump intervention. After the maceration, the wine remained one more month on the pomps before being translated by gravity. An 11 months breeding in fifth and sixth use barrels contributed roundness without blurring its fruit character.
An expressive and elegant wine
The result is an expressive and elegant wine. It presents a bright violet red color and displays intense aromas of cherry, plum and blackberry, accompanied by subtle spicy notes and a delicate earthy background, direct inheritance of the terracotta. In the mouth it is fresh, frank and persistent, with soft tannins and a vibrant acidity that invites you to continue discovering it.
The presentation of the product accompanies its spirit: Burgundy type bottle, enveloping label, wax capsule, diam 10 technical cork and individual cases or boxes by three units. To its elegance and purity is added a great potential for guardianship, which – according to estimates of the winery – can exceed ten years, consolidating its character as collection wine.
This amphora malbec aligns with a global trend that seeks to reconnect with sustainable practices, minimal intervention methods and a vinification focused on the expression of the origin. Without new oak or invasive technologies, it is designed for those who value purity, history and authenticity.

“From the southern Mendoza, we are convinced that you can innovate without losing sight of the essential. This wine embodies our vision: to unite history with the present, the landscape with the technique, and offer a different sensory experience,” concludes Rubio.
With this edition, the winery reaffirms its commitment to conscious, creative and deeply rooted viticulture to its land. And he does it with his own voice, from a region that begins to tell, every time with more clarity, his history and identity: the south oasis Mendoza.
