The property was built in the 18th century and later to the favorite residence of Edward VIII (1894-1972), who lived there before he became king and after leaving. He is said to have signed the documents in the house in 1936 that sealed his abdication.

For William and Kate as well as their children Prince George (12), Princess Charlotte (10) and Prince Louis (7), the move would probably mean above all that they have more space.
