Laura Dahlmeier was seriously an accident: the ex-biathlete was hit by a rockfall in Pakistan. The salvage is currently underway.
Laura Dahlmeier (31), the most successful German biathlete of all time, was at least seriously injured in a dramatic mountain accident in Pakistan. The 31-year-old was recorded by a rockfall on Monday (July 28th) around noon at 5,700 meters in the Karakorum Mountains.
Accordingly, Dahlmeier was “on the road in the alpine style” with “her rope partner” when the accident happened. The companion immediately made an emergency call, but the salvage is extremely difficult due to the extreme height and seclusion of the area. So far nobody has been able to penetrate her.
Helicopter only after a day on site
Due to the remote location, a rescue helicopter could not reach the scene of the accident until Tuesday morning. During a overflight, the rescuers found that the experienced climber was at least seriously injured. The most disturbing detail: “Signs of life could not be recognized,” said management. An international mountain rescue team currently coordinates the complicated recovery. The professional rescuers are supported by experienced international mountaineers who happen to be in the region.
The native of Garmisch-Partenkirchner is not just an extraordinary athlete. After her active career as a biathlete, she completed her training as a state-certified mountain and ski guide and is an active member of the mountain rescue service. She is considered an experienced and risk -conscious mountaineer who knows the dangers of the mountains very well.
Management asks for consideration
“Further information on the accident would be provided as soon as there are secure knowledge,” says the official communication of management. Out of consideration for the family and close people, the team urgently asks the public to “refrain from questions and to maintain the privacy of relatives in this stressful situation”.
