One of these 5 films goes to the Oscar race for Germany

The new films by Fatih Akin, Mascha Schilinski and three other filmmakers are in forecast for the German Oscar candidate.

For the Oscar category of the best international film, their candidates are sufficient. From Germany there is now a pre -selection of five films.

Among them are “Amrum” by Fatih Akin with Diane Kruger, Mascha Schilinski’s drama “look in the sun”, which won a prize in Cannes and the documentary “Riefenstahl” produced by Sandra Maischberger (directed by Andres Veiel).

“Cranko” by Joachim Lang is also running into the race with Sam Riley. And the anti -war film “Tiger” by Dennis Gansel, an in -house production by the streaming provider Amazon.

An independent jury decides which of these five films Germany submits to the best international film category. German Films, the foreign representation of German film, announces the result on August 21. This does not yet mean that the work makes it into the shortlist of 15 titles or ultimately under the nominees.

The shortlist will be announced on December 16, the nominations on January 22, 2026. The 98th Oscar Awards will take place on Sunday, March 15th (local time, CET on Monday night).
