The Wacken Open Air picks up muddy speeds: The so-called Infield of the Heavy Metal Festival is open. Despite the rain, thousands of people ran to the stages after admission.
With a loud cheer, the gates to the so-called Infield of the Heavy Metal Festival in the Schleswig-Holstein Wacken open with a loud cheer. Shortly after 3:30 p.m., thousands of metal fans flow the area in front of the two main stages of the Wacken Open Air (W: O: A, until August 2). “Moin Metalheads, nice that you are all back,” calls festival founder Holger Hübner. With a view of the many rain, he speaks of the “original wacker weather, thank you very much for it”.
Nevertheless, it would be a “horny week” again, promised Hübner. “And as long as you don’t see us, everything is cool.” Therefore, he and co -founder Thomas Jensen would only be on stage again on Sunday morning.
The 85,000 tickets for the festival have been sold since the end of September. The W: O: A is considered one of the largest heavy metal festivals worldwide. In the afternoon, Wind Rose was the first volume to play on one of the two main stages.
Headliners are the US rockers Guns N ‘Roses this year, for the men around Axl Rose, their first visit to Wacken on Thursday evening is also the end of their European and Middle East tour. The French band Gojira, the US rocker Papa Roach, Machine Head, Apocalyptica and Michael Schenker are also expected. Saltatio Mortis wanted to play on Wednesday evening.
