Billie Eilish hit follow on just one account on TikTok — and that’s no other musician, it’s a candy store on the other side of the world.
Billie Eilish is one of the biggest pop stars in the world – and the 20-year-old singer owes a large part of her success to social media. Whether Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, millions of fans everywhere follow what Eilish does. The musician has also been on TikTok since November, where she is followed by more than 42 million users.
However, she only follows one single account – and that’s not another music star, a major media channel or a company. The only profile Billie Eilish has hit follow is owned by Australian candy store Sticky Lollies. All sorts of sweets are made there by hand. Now this TikTok account is not exactly unknown either – more than five million have subscribed to his videos – but the owners see the interest of the pop star as a great honor.
Billie Eilish makes shopkeepers proud
“Cool thing with Billie Eilish,” shop owner David King captioned a screenshot on the shop’s Facebook page. Already in November, shortly after she created her account on TikTok, Billie Eilish followed the Australians. To date, she has not done this with any other profile. And it is also unclear how the connection between the US pop star and the store in Sydney came about.
In fact, Sticky Lollies has built a huge fan base on TikTok and other social networks during the pandemic. The social media commitment was more of an emergency solution, Annabelle King, who runs the business with her father, told the “Business Insider”: The restrictions during the Corona period ensured that the shop was “on the verge of collapse ” said the 19-year-old.
Business success via social media
Then she came up with the idea of using social media to generate attention and, ideally, revenue. The plan worked out perfectly: The videos from the candy factory are viewed hundreds of thousands, sometimes even millions of times. After just one month, one million followers were on board. “There is a manufacturing process for every candy,” explains Annabelle King, and sees this as the secret of the account’s success: “Process combined with personality.”
“Human and honest” she and her father want to appear on TikTok. They do it so well that stars like rapper Snoop Dogg share videos of them. Maybe that’s how Billie Eilish became aware of the store in Australia. Annabelle and David King no longer have to worry about financial matters: the business is now more successful than ever.
