In an interview, Hendrik Simons commented on his threatening career end as a singer. He is worried about his hearing.
Schlager star Hendrik “Hein” Simons (69), better known as Heintje, spoke in an interview with the “Welt am Sonntag” (edition of August 1.) about his 70th birthday on August 12 and his uncertain future as a singer.
“My hearing is very worried,” explains the 69-year-old. He only hears 70 percent on the left ear, and only 30 percent on the right. Because of this handicap, he canceled all appearances, although he still gets a lot of inquiries. “I fight with myself, but if that doesn’t improve, I will say much earlier than I like: ‘Kinners, bye, that was.'” To pronounce this would be very painful for him, because it is his dream job. “Something very important would be missing, but I wouldn’t be missing anymore if it is no longer possible for imperative reasons.”
Heintje: “I want to live”
The Dutch pop singer “quite well under control”, as he reports, has the skin cancer diagnosed. “It was only a few days ago that I was back at the doctor to have something cut out.” After a pulmonary embolism, he also takes blood thinners every day, so that he also “has a grip”. The musician emphasizes: “I want to live!” He takes life as it comes, “no matter whether it is about diseases or whatever”. The singer’s divorced since 2014 also indicates a possible new relationship: “Let’s see what is coming. What does it mean: autumn also has nice days.”
And how does he celebrate his 70th birthday? He has left the big parties behind, emphasizes Simons. “My children, the grandchildren and a few friends come to drink coffee – that’s it.” He is looking forward to getting older and wants to grow very old, “if it works. However, I would like to do and determine a lot myself. If that is not the case, I will die with 99.”
