In Australia, a woman will soon be at the top of the police – a historical decision.

For the first time in his story, Australia is given a woman to the boss of the federal police. Krissy Barrett is supposed to take on the role in early October, as Australian media reported. She looks back on a 25 -year career in law enforcement – among other things in the course of the fatal terrorist attacks on the Indonesian island of Bali, where more than 80 Australians were killed in 2002.

“There is no greater honor”

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese spoke of a historical appointment – both for the Australian government and the federal police (Australian Federal Police). More than 8,000 people work there in around 30 countries.

“There is no greater honor than to bear the uniform of those who serve the Australians and protect them,” said Albanese. Barrett said she never thought that one day she would lead the important authority and promised to honor the important office.

It was only in June that it became known that in Great Britain for the first time in the history of the MI6 foreign intelligence agency with Blaise Metreweli, a woman takes over the chief post. So far, a woman at the head of the legendary secret service has only existed in the James Bond films, where actress Judi Dench embodied the fictional M several times from 1995 to 2015.
