The prestigious Cordoba artist has just opened “Philosophy of Hope” on the Paseo de las Artes Duhau, in which an expression of a more chaotic world is turned
The work of Roger Mantegani (Córdoba, 1957) was characterized by its theatricality, an elaborate staging of actors located frontally, hieratic, which seem to pose; Black and White Damero, Bruñido Bronze Musical Instruments, cloths such as backdrop, extravagant hats, galleys, mask and even elements that were used in the famous still lifes, books, globe, measurement, measurement instruments, candles and even the skull.

Sometimes, the spectator in front of his works, very elaborate scenographies, had the feeling of being in front of photographs of great precision that led to the problem if the work is or is not, such excellence of its pictorial resources.

We use the past at the beginning of this note because Mantegani seems to have stripped of that fiction to give way to “Philosophy of hope”title of its current sample, works, in general of large dimension, drawings on scenographic paper, carbon, drip, oil, collage in which the figures appear blurred, the body in extreme tension, thanks to that expressive freedom achieved over the years.
A drawing that turns to the paper much more spontaneous, fluid, more associated with today’s world, the figures are no longer hieratic, but are chaotically arranged. We highlight “Chaos balance”the series “Introspections”triptych, oil, cake on paper, a dark series, “Papel City” That we think refers to fragility, both human and to the figure of a homeless dog.
That vision of the world of Mantegani Previous is no longer consistent with the current one, in which uncertainty, global authoritarianism, the devaluation of the other, the non -dialogue, that is why welcome maintenance to a greater commitment to the reality that surrounds us in which “the philosophy of hope” becomes a duty.
Closing on August 31. Duhau Arts Walk. Av. Alvear 1661 open 24 hours.
