Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon was vacationed with his sons in Portugal. In Norway there is criticism that stepson Marius is there.
In the middle of the serious allegations against Marius Borg Høiby (28), Crown Prince Haakon (52) shows publicly family cohesion. Together with his son Prince Sverre Magnus (19) and his stepson Marius, the Norwegian heir to the throne spent five days in the Portuguese surf paradise Ribeira d’Ilhas.
Serious allegations against Marius Borg Høiby
Published photos of the return of the trio to Norway on July 27 – just two days before prosecutor Sturla Henriksbø told the press that a decision about a possible indictment against Marius was imminent.
According to Oslo’s police, there are serious allegations against the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit (51) from a previous relationship. The investigation has been completed, a decision on an indictment should be made in mid -August. The list of offenses is long: rape, sexual attacks, violence in relationships, threats, property damage.
An incident in August 2024 – physical violence against his girlfriend at the time and vandalism in her apartment – the 28 -year -old has already given one, but other allegations.
Criticism for surf vacation by Marius and Crown Prince Haakon
According to “Se OG Hør”, the fact that the surf vacation only took place shortly before the announcement of a possible indictment also causes criticism in Norway. It is therefore increasingly being discussed whether it is appropriate that Marius can take vacation trips despite the ongoing investigation and the severity of the allegations. Observers see the vacation together by Crown Prince Haakon and Prince Sverre Magnus with Marius as a clear sign that the family stands with him despite everything.
Marius has lived in the narrow environment of the Norwegian royal family since he was third. In the past, Crown Prince Haakon repeatedly emphasized how close the relationship with his stepson is. Among other things, the two combine a passion for sporting activities such as skiing, sailing and surfing. In the past, there have always been photos of common surfing.
The Norwegian Royal expert Caroline Vagle sees Haakon’s behavior a consistent loyalty: “He treats Marius like his own son – even now. Of course, he distances himself from the deeds, but he stays by his side. This is understandable, but politically and socially difficult.”
Decision in the process comes in mid -August
The list of allegations against Høiby is extensive. He is accused of a total of 23 alleged crimes, including a case of rape with sexual intercourse, two cases of rape without sexual intercourse and four cases of sexually offensive behavior. In addition, there is a case of abuse in close relationships, two assault, property damage, threat and five violations of a ban on contact.
According to Norwegian, the public prosecutor is to make its decision on a possible indictment in mid -August. If there is a process afterwards, he threatens a prison sentence of several years in the event of a conviction.
Marius Borg Høiby comes from an earlier relationship between Mette-Marit and belongs to the royal family, but does not wear a primary title and is not an official member of the Norwegian royal family. With Haakon, his mother has two other children: Princess Ingrid Alexandra, who recently started studying in Sydney, Australia, and Prince Sverre Magnus.
