“We are already working to continue improving our technology and, in the coming months, we will implement numerous improvements in the Disney+app, including new and exciting functions and a more personalized home page,” Disney said in the executive comment prior to a conference with analysts this morning. “All this work will culminate with the unified experience of streaming Disney+ and Hulu apps, which will be available for consumers next year.”
Changes in Disney+
Hulu has been considered an international brand for a long time, and the streaming service was about to match the British Itv chain in an important content agreement already in 2009. However, this did not materialize and since then Hulu has remained an exclusive brand for the United Statesexcept for a service in Japan in 2011 that was sold to Nippon three years later. Chance or not, ITV and Disney+ recently initiated a collaboration to share content, which allows their services in the United Kingdom to reproduce selected lots of the content of the other party.
Disney launched Disney+ in 2019 and expanded during the following years. The Star brand, widely used and recognized in Latin America and Asia, was designated as the general entertainment platform.
Just a few weeks ago, Disney completed the purchase process of Comcast participation in Hulu. The streaming service, which began as a joint company and at the time it involved four media giants as shareholders, was under Disney operational control in 2019 as part of the acquisition of most of the 21st Century Fox for 71,300 million dollars.
In the US, Hulu’s programming has progressively integrated into the Disney+flagship platform, amid speculation about a possible integration of the streaming platform, with almost 20 years old.
Disney’s executive director, Bob Iger, and Financial Director, Hugh Johnson, in statements published before the Company’s Results Conference with Wall Street analysts on Wednesday, they said that Hulu had been completely integrated into Disney+. He was described as “a big step forward” that will create “an impressive entertainment offer.”
