Soulja Boy was released after two nights – the public prosecutor did not raise any charges for a suspected weapon tin.
The US rapper Soulja Boy (35) is again at large after the public prosecutor’s office of Los Angeles has not charged not charges for a suspected weapon offset. The reason for this is an insufficient evidence, as the authority confirmed.
The musician, who is called Deandre Cortez Way, was arrested in the early morning hours on Sunday after the vehicle in which he was traveling was initially stopped due to a suspected traffic offense in Los Angeles. During the check, the police officers discovered a firearm in the car. Soulja Boy, who is considered a criminal record, was then taken into custody on suspicion of illegal gun ownership.
The “Crank That” star spent two nights in custody. The procedure was finally stopped on Tuesday because the evidence of criminal prosecution was not sufficient. Shortly after his release, Soulja Boy came back on Instagram with the words “First Day Out” (German first day outside).
Always legal problems
Soulja Boy became world famous in 2007 with the hit “Crank That (Soulja Boy)”. The song kept in first place on the US charts for weeks and was nominated for a Grammy in 2008. The musician also became internationally known through a viral dance trend around the song.
But his career was repeatedly overshadowed by legal problems: in 2014, Soulja Boy was sentenced to a probation for unauthorized gun ownership. A later violation of the probation requirements led to he spent almost eight months in prison.
In April 2025, the rapper was sentenced to a woman in a civil process of paying $ 4.25 million to a woman who accused him of sexual abuse and physical violence. The musician had denied the allegations and explained that the relationship was mutually acceptable. The jury saw it differently and found him guilty of sexual assault, bodily harm and gender -specific violence.
