Eddie Murphy only expects an Oscar in old age. “I get my honorary car when I’m 90,” jokes the star.
Comedy legend Eddie Murphy (64) has a clear idea of when he will finally hold his first Oscar in his hands: “If I am really old. And I will say: Thank you very much for this wonderful honor. I will be old and no longer have teeth. I think it’s cool to get my honor oscar when I am 90”
Comedy king without a trophy collection
Murphy is one of the biggest comedy stars ever. Since his breakthrough on “Saturday Night Live” in 1980, he has made himself immortal through franchise success such as “Beverly Hills Cop” and “Shrek”. Nevertheless, he has only been nominated once for an Oscar: 2007 for “Dreamgirls” – as an actor Alan Arkin (1934-2023) for “Little Miss Sunshine”.
“The films are timeless and they are special. These films run for years and have commercial success. You make a lot of money and people love it, so you don’t even think about it: ‘I have not won trophies.’ The reaction of the people and that the film has existed is the trophy, “Murphy explained his relaxed attitude to a lack of awards.
Comedy deserves more respect
His new project “The Pickup” is about two money transporters. Keke Palmer (31) and Pete Davidson (31) play the leading roles next to him. Palmer in particular raves about Murphys: “It is very difficult to make people laugh.”
Keke Palmer sees a fundamental problem in the lack of Oscar recognition for Murphy: “Missing recognition and undervaluation and all of these things annoy me a little because I think that the effect is really the most important thing, i.e. how people have been moved by your work, which you cannot really measure with a price or anything else,” she is cited.
