Bono criticizes Israeli procedure in the Gaza Strip
The musician is involved in humanitarian in Africa. Politics in the Middle East are very complex, Bono writes – but now the audience should know where the band is.
In a long contribution, U2 frontman Bono sharply criticized the Israeli government’s procedure in the Gaza Strip and at the same time condemned the Hamas’ actions. “The Israeli government is not the people of Israel, but today’s Israeli government under Benjamin Netanyahu deserves our categorical and unmistakable conviction,” wrote the musician. The band published the article on various social media platforms and its own website.
Among other things, Bono criticizes the blockade of humanitarian aid and plans for a military takeover of the city of Gaza. “We know that Hamas starts hunger as a weapon of war, but now Israel does so, and I feel disgust of this moral failure.”
Bono at the same time condemned the attack of Islamist Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023. He emphasized that Hamas was not equivalent to the Palestinian people, which “had to endure marginalization, oppression, occupation and the systematic robbery of his legally entitled to it for decades.
The 65-year-old spoke in favor of an immediate hiring of the fights on both sides, for the release of the hostages and for a two-state solution. He also asked the population of Israel to “request the unreserved access of skilled workers so that they can make the urgently needed medical care in Gaza and West Bank, which they know best to distribute” and more truck with relief goods.
