Peter Weck celebrates his 95th birthday on August 12th – his “I marry a family” colleague Thekla Carola Wied.
With the cult series “I married a family” (1983-1986), Thekla Carola Wied (81) and Peter Weck (95) wrote TV history. On the occasion of his 95th birthday on Wednesday, his former series wife is now sending him loving greetings.
“Dear Peter, you have always suspected that your genes would make a long life possible. This prophecy has already arrived,” said Wied in an interview with the “Bild” newspaper. If wake -up wanted, he should “manage” the 100 years. “I will accompany you in my thoughts and hug you warmly, your Thekla!”
“95 years – an extremely grateful gift”
He surprises himself that Weck is now almost a century old. “95 years – an extremely grateful gift! I played so many roles that I sometimes forget who I am actually,” said the actor in the “Bild” conversation. However, one thing he knew exactly: “I was always with a heart and always persistent curiosity.”
At the beginning of 2022 Peter Weck suffered a stroke and is now dependent on a wheelchair. According to the report, Weck celebrates his birthday today together with his children Barbara and Philipp and his partner Joanna Rzepa in a restaurant in Vienna. The Mayor of Vienna is also expected.
Peter Weck stood in front of the camera for decades
Almost his entire life was the actor and director born in Vienna in the spotlight. After the first engagements on the theater stage, he gave his film debut in 1954 in “And the sky laughs”. On the side of Romy Schneider (1938-1982) and Karlheinz Böhm (1928-2014) he was also seen in the popular “Sissi” trilogy as the brother of Emperor Franz-Joseph. From the 1960s he conquered television, also as a moderator of music programs such as “We make music”.
He is still particularly well known for his role in “I marry a family”. For 14 episodes, the Austrian delighted an audience of millions as Werner Schumann, who with Thekla Carola Wied alias Angi not only finds the woman for life, but suddenly also becomes a father of three children. Later he was seen in popular TV formats such as “The Dream Ship”, “Tatort” or “The Dream Hotel”.
But Weck celebrated success not only as an actor and director. He is also considered the “father of the German musical renaissance”. In 1983 he took over the directorate of the theater on Vienna, where he set records with Andrew Lloyd Webbers “Cats” and “The Phantom of the Opera”. Countless prices line his long career, including two Bambis, three golden cameras and the “Romy” of platinum for his life’s work.
