For many hit fans, the “golden voice from Prague” remains unforgettable. But the hopes for a museum in the singer’s Prague villa have broken up for the time being.
Bad news for fans of the pop singer Karel Gott, who died almost six years ago: Working on a museum about the life of the “Golden Voice from Prague” will not be continued for the time being. “Unfortunately, I have to stop the Villa God project, as I originally planned and dreamed of all of you, for health and personal reasons,” said Ivana Gottova, the widow of the singer.
Not an easy decision for Gott’s widow
The decision was not easy for her, it said. “Above all, every project should bring joy,” emphasized Ivana Gottova. “And if it affects health, it is appropriate to say stop.” Originally, the museum was to be opened this year in the longstanding residence Karel Gotts in the Smichov district of Prague.
Villa should be made accessible
The entertainment star lived in the villa in Prague-Smichov from 1974 until his death on October 1, 2019 at the age of 80. Just a few days ago, the district there brought an initiative to name a small place near the artist. The Names of the Czech capital now deals with the proposal.
More than 50 million plates sold
Karel Gott became famous with hits like “Biene Maja”, “Lady Carneval” and “Once around the world”. He stood on stage for more than six decades and, according to his career, sold more than 50 million recordings. From 2006 to 2009 there was already a museum under the name “Gottland” about the life and work of the singer in Jevany near Prague, but which had to close for reasons of profitability.
