Now, Dicaprio and Anderson are here 30 years later with One battle after another, his first film collaboration that opens in cinemas this September. DiCaprio plays Bob Ferguson, a failed revolutionary who struggles to save his teenage daughter, Willa (Chase Infiniti).
“Why did it take us so long?” Anderson asked DiCaprio about his joint work.
“I know that ‘one battle after another’ has been on your desk for a long time,” DiCaprio replied. “It was a personal story for you in many ways and certainly relevant to the world in which we live right now. But, ultimately, wanting to make this movie was quite simple: I’ve been wanting to work with you about twenty years, Pauland I loved the idea of the failed revolutionary that tries to erase his past, disappear and try to live a normal life raising his daughter. ”
Anderson also asked DiCaprio if he ever watched any of his old films. The Oscar winning actor admitted: “I rarely see my movies, but being honest, there is one that I have seen more than others. It is ‘the aviator’. Simply because it was a very special moment for me.”
The aviator marked the second collaboration between DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese. DiCaprio played the tycoon Howard Hughes in this biographical drama and received an Oscar nomination for best actor.
“I had worked with Marty [Scorsese] In ‘Gangs of New York’ and had been with a book about Howard Hughes for ten years, “DiCaprio explained.” I was about to do it with Michael Mann, but a conflict emerged and I ended up introducing it to Marty. I was thirty years old. It was the first time, as an actor, that I felt an integral part of the production, instead of simply a hired actor to play a role. I felt responsible for a completely new way. I’ve always felt proud and connected to that movieas a fundamental part of my growth in this industry and by assuming the role of a true collaborator for the first time. ”
