What was going on? Austin Butler attracted attention online with a strange dance. Now he has explained what’s behind it.

Swinging hips, but crossed arms: recently a video of actor Austin Butler (33), which shows him on stage at a concert by Superstar Bad Bunny (31) in Puerto Rico. The network puzzled: Was the Hollywood star just shy, bad in a bad mood or what exactly was going on? Now the 33 -year -old has explained in the “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” how it came to the moment – and the story is so absurd that it is almost ready for film.

Butler was in Puerto Rico to visit Bad Bunny’s “No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí” show. At noon the two had eaten together. “He told me a bit about the show, but I didn’t know how gigantic it really was,” said Butler. “The people there love him and it was impressive to see what it means for the Puerto-Rican culture.”

Austin Butler took an edible in front of Bad Bunny concert

Shortly before the start of the concert, Butler was offered an edible (a food mixed with cannabis) – and accepted it. “I thought that would be a good idea. I assumed that we would just be somewhere in the audience,” he said. Instead, he landed in the middle of the action in a small, house -like backdrop directly on a secondary stage.

For Butler, who is reluctant to focus in his own words, it was a challenge: “I don’t even like it if someone sings me ‘Happy Birthday’.” Now he suddenly stood next to Bad Bunny in front of thousands of fans – and the edible started to work.

Austin Butler had “two films” in his head

As he says, “two films” ran in his head: on the one hand he wanted to enjoy the performance and thought of how proud he was on his colleague. On the other hand, he tried not to attract too much: “I didn’t want to be the guy who distracts his attention from him.”

His body wanted to move to the music, but his head said “just didn’t dance too much”. The result: careful hip rockers with crossed arms. “Every time I opened my arms, it felt like I was drawing all the eyes,” said Butler.

The actor took it with humor and jokingly compared himself to the “Sad Affleck” meme – a photo of Ben Affleck that showed him in 2023 with the Grammy Awards with an expressionless expression and went viral.
