Maren Kroymann is horrified in the NDR Talk Show about regression on queer rights and increasing violence.
Maren Kroymann finds clear words for the current situation of the queer movement. In the NDR Talk Show on August 15th, the 76-year-old actress is shocked by the latest developments: “I think that’s terrible. What Trump says is adopted here in advance.”
The actress’s observations are alarming. Large companies such as SAP have deleted their quota for women, diversity programs were dropped. Kroymann describes the violence against queer people particularly dramatically: “There is a lot of violence against queer people, especially against trans women.”
Rollback is noticeable in Germany
Kroymann sees a direct connection between Donald Trump’s politics and developments in Germany. In their view, some people take up the rhetoric of the US president and use them as an excuse for their own resentment. “As if some people are glad that there is a rollback again because they were not really convinced that homosexuals are now allowed to marry and adopt children,” she analyzes the situation.
The actress speaks from her own experience. In 1993 she came publicly as a lesbian and, together with her partner, was portrayed for a title story of the star about lesbian women. At a time when there were only a few queer people in public life, this was a brave step.
Professional consequences after the coming-out
The decision for openness had professional consequences. As Kroymann reported in 2000, she was not offered roles for a while after her public coming out – despite her career that had been successful until then. “This is a very bad development. We are asked again,” warns Kroymann in the NDR Talk Show.
The actress and cabaret artist, who is known for her satirical show “Kroymann” and her long -term stage career, consciously uses her celebrities for political statements and has been awarded many times for her work and commitment.
