The 105-year-old veteran Yavar Abbas touched King Charles and Queen Camilla with spontaneous words at the VJ Day celebration.

At the ceremony on the 80th anniversary of the VJ Day in the National Memorial Arboretum in England, there was a particularly moving moment: the 105-year-old Veteran Yavar Abbas spontaneously grabbed the microphone and directly spoke to King Charles (76) about its ongoing cancer treatment.

“Before I read the move out, I apologize for briefly deviating from the script to greet my brave king,” said Abbas and lifted my hand to the salute. “He is here with his beloved queen, even though he is undergoing cancer treatment.” The cameras caught how the royal couple reacted visibly moved. Queen Camilla (78) even dabbed the tears with a handkerchief.

King Charles had been diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer last year, but continues his royal obligations despite ongoing treatment. The VJ Day ceremony marked the victory over Japan and the end of the Second World War 80 years ago.
