Regina Hall and Anna Faris are once again in front of the camera for the “Scary Movie” sequel.
The actresses Regina Hall (54) and Anna Faris (48) will take over their iconic roles as best friends Brenda Meeks and Cindy Campbell in the sixth part of the “Scary Movie” series again. The sequel is promoted by the original franchise creators, the Wayans brothers.
“We can hardly wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and to be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon – three men for whom we would literally die (in Brenda’s case again),” Hall and Faris told in a common statement. Since the first announcement of the revival on the Cinemacon, fans had hoped for the return of Hall and Faris in April 2024.
Marlon Wayans also confirmed the news on his Instagram account and from the first film. The 53-year-old, who played in the original films Shorty Meeks, announced in October last year to return to the franchise, which he co-founded two decades ago.
Wayans brothers work together again after 18 years
In addition to Marlon, his brothers Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans will also be involved in the project. The brothers teamed up again for the first time in 18 years to write a script for the restart of the series. Shawn had played in the first two films of Ray Wilkins, while Keenen acted as a director.
Wayan wrote to another photo of the original stars: “The Fantastic Four are back. So excited to be united with these two brilliant women again. He also announced that the new part should come to the cinema on June 12, 2026.
Together with Rick Alvarez, the Wayans will write the script and act as producers of the new film. The sixth film in the series will be staged by Michael Tiddes.
Horror parodies have become the box office hit
The first “Scary Movie” film from 2000 was an unexpected box office hit and recorded $ 278 million worldwide at a budget of $ 19 million. The film parodies horror films like “Scream” and “I know what you did last summer”. “Scary Movie 2”, who put films such as “Das Geisterschloss” and “The Exorcist” on the grain, achieved income of $ 141 million with a budget of $ 45 million.
After the first two films, the Wayans brothers left the franchise, which was continued under the creative direction of comedy legend David Zucker with sequels in 2003 and 2006.
