Natalia Wörner: This is how “Diplomatin” enjoys Rome

Working in Rome is a dream – but not everything in life is rosy. Natalia Wörner talks about equality and taboos before the new episode “Die Diplomatin”.

Stroll through an almost empty Rome at dawn: for actress Natalia Wörner (“under other circumstances”) it is the most beautiful ritual. The eternal city is “like a lively museum,” says the 57-year-old in the interview of the German Press Agency. Especially early in the morning, when there are no tourists on the road, Rome developed its original strength “You breathe in the history of the city. It is a silent poetry.”

Born in Stuttgart, the ARD series “Die Diplomatin” turned again for weeks in Rome. Italian perfected it in one point: “I can order a coffee incredibly elegantly,” she says with a laugh. Negative does not come up with anything: “A lot is chaotic, but you always find a solution. For me, this is very Italian, alive and creative.”

After long shooting days, Wörner often treats himself to a gelato. “They have so incredibly good ice,” she enthuses. She remains classic with the variety: “I love pistachie ice.” She prefers to enjoy it in front of the Spanish staircase – you can no longer sit there. “That is the perfect crowning glory one day,” she says.

Wörner has been in the spotlight since her debut in the 1990s-her relationship with ex-Foreign Minister Heiko Maas (SPD) also made headlines. Nevertheless, she is reluctant to talk about private. She cannot understand the interest in it. “I already share my job with the world, that’s public enough for me.”

Wörner also sees a need for action when it comes to equality: “There was a lot of achievement, but even in my professional environment there are still injustices, for example when paying,” says Wörner. In addition, women would still be rated privately and professionally according to other standards.

The new episode of “Die Diplomatin” runs on August 23 in the ARD. For the eighth time, Wörner embodies the role of Karla Lorenz – again in use in Rome.
