Little ate and trained all the more hard: Mila Kunis unpacks the difficult filming for the 15th anniversary of “Black Swan”.
Mila Kunis (42) spoke about her challenging role in the psychothriller “Black Swan”. In order to credibly embody the Ballerina Lily, she largely avoided food and danced for many hours a day.
“I drank a lot of broth”
In an interview with “Vogue” on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the film from 2010, the actress and co-star Natalie Portman (44) and director Darren Aronofsky told how hard the shoot was. “I danced a lot to my preparation and ate very little. I know that you shouldn’t say, but it’s the truth. I drank a lot of broth and danced twelve hours a day.”
Actually, only three months of preparation were planned. “But we lost the financing so that the shooting time extended to six months while Darren tried to find money. It was really caustic for Darren, but of course and I were so happy because we had three additional months to dance.”
Shoulder cut out and lots of bruises
When turning the many dance scenes, Kunis suffered a number of painful injuries. “We turned these dance scenes for hours and I had bruises everywhere on the ribs just because I was lifted up again and again.” In addition, she was already teasing her shoulder at the beginning. The director then sent her to acupuncture, “and somehow I came out completely healthy again”.
A flea market stroll with consequences
Incidentally, she owed her role Natalie Portman, who was occupied for the main character Nina. Portman revealed in the interview: “We were friends for years and I remember how I was with her on the Rose Bowl flea market and talked about this ballet film, which I made with Darren. Mila said: I still know how I moved out my top shoes … ‘And I said:’ I immediately called Darren and said there was a great actress with ballet experience that would be perfect for Lily “. The problem, however, was that Kunis didn’t have that much top dance experience. “I think I said: ‘I danced once’, and it was twisted so that I would have made top dance,” said Kunis, whereupon Portman got involved: “Maybe I have exaggerated to you!”
The 44-year-old also described how exciting it was to see the finished film. “I didn’t quite understand the basic mood of the film while filming and was quite surprised what he looked like in the end.” She had no idea about the scope of the director’s vision. The film, whose budget was modest $ 13 million, recorded almost $ 330 million on the box office worldwide. Natalie Portman was also celebrated for her role. She won many prizes, including the Oscar 2011 as the best leading actress.
