The British actor Terence Stamp, who was world famous as a “Superman” evil, is dead. According to his family, the London native died on Sunday at the age of 87, as the British newspaper “Guardian” reported. The “New York Times” also reported death, citing Stamps, relatives. The cause of death and the place were therefore not announced.



“He leaves an extraordinary life’s work, both as an actor and as a writer that will touch and inspire people for many years,” the “Guardian” quoted from a communication from the family.

Stamp was known for his acting range. On the side of Christopher Reeve, he embodied General Zod in two “Superman” films (1978 and 1980). In the shrill cult film “Priscilla-Queen of the Desert” (1994) about two drag queens and a transgender woman who toured the Australian outback in a bus baptized in Priscilla, he played the aging Bernadette.


The actor, born in 1938, studied acting in London and was immediately successful with his debut film “Die Dommen der Säere” (1962) directed by Peter Ustinov. Stamp was nominated for a supporting actor Oscar for his role as the sailor Billy Budd, he won the Golden Globe as the best young actor. In 1967 he played with Julie Christie in the film adaptation “The Mistress of Thornhill”, the two were also a couple at times.

Well -known directors, including Pier Paolo Pasolini, John Schlesinger, Steven Soderbergh and Oliver Stone, stamped Stamp in front of the camera.
