Renée Zellweger surprises with the animated short film. So it came to the directorial debut of the “Bridget Jones” actress.
She has been successful in front of the camera for over 30 years, now she has changed pages. Renée Zellweger (56) presented her directorial debut at the Edinburgh International Film Film Festival at the weekend. The two -time Oscar winner presented the nine -minute animated film “They” in the Scottish capital.
The “Bridget Jones” actress did not have an ambitions to direct it, like her. “I don’t think that the director’s management was a personal goal of mine,” she told the magazine.
“Heart project” started as “coincidence”
“I always thought when I felt an inner calling to tell a story, and I would have the feeling that it would be the right thing for me, I would probably like to do it and try it,” the actress revealed. “But only if it feels necessary – not just to gain experience.”
At some point around 2018 or 2019, according to Zellweger it was so far, she felt the appeal. She describes that this happened as “coincidence”. She was currently watching the news on television with acquaintances and was horrified at all the negative news that they met. She came up with the idea of visually presenting the “pollution” of the world through the toxic energy.
“There are always roaring new ideas”
With a friend of enthusiasm, she designed the characters for “They”. A producer she knew from the first “Bridget Jones” film brought her together with another animator. During the Corona pandemic, they then worked on Zellweger’s “heart project”, as they call the film to “The Hollywood Reporter”.
Renée Zellweger “loved” the experience as a director, as she revealed to the industry magazine. Therefore, it shouldn’t stay with a film. “New ideas are always bubbling,” said the Texan. “It is only a question of the right time until everything fits together,” continued Zellweger. She already has a new project in mind, it should be a mixture of animation and real film.
