Although she describes herself as a feminist: Helen Mirren has a clear opinion on whether a woman should play James Bond.
Should the next actor of the James Bond be a (white) man again? Or would a woman be attached as 007? Since Daniel Craig’s farewell (57), this debate has been simmering again and again as a double agent. With Helen Mirren (80), a confessing women’s rights activist has now spoken out. “I’m a convinced feminist, but James Bond has to be a man”,
“You can’t take a woman,” she added. “It just doesn’t work”. If James Bond were no longer James Bond, you would have something else, she argues.
Helen Mirren as an agent in retirement
Helen Mirren came to James Bond on the occasion of her new film “The Thursday Murder Club”. In the crime comedy after the bestseller “The Thursday Murder Club” she plays a retired spy herself. When a murder happens in her retirement home, she is investigating with her roommates.
“So many women have worked in this world,” said Helen Mirren about the agent scene. “It is a embodiment of reality, it is certain,” she said about her figure. But James Bond stands on another sheet. The films around 007 are not that realistic, but are fun.
In “The Thursday Murder Club” Helen Mirren plays next to the former bond actor Pierce Brosnan (72). The “Saga Magazin” also asked him about the next 007. “I am very excited to see the next actor on stage and experience a completely new charisma and liveliness for this figure,” he said.
“I love the world of James Bond. She brought me a lot of good. She is a gift that gives further and further,” continued the four-time 007 mime Brosnan.
“The Thursday Murder Club” starts on August 28th at Netflix. Ben Kingsley (81) can also be seen next to Mirren and Brosnan.
