Kevin Costner is a big western fan. But now he puts himself together with Jake Gyllenhaal for an unusual tragicomedy. After a death, they go together on a honeymoon.
Western hero Kevin Costner (70) and action star Jake Gyllenhaal (44, “Road House”) will spend shared weeks in the film “Honeymoon”. The Studio Amazon MGM now announced the star cast for the tragicömodie. The unusual story revolves around a groom (Gyllenhaal), whose fiancé dies shortly before the wedding. Instead of canceling the honeymoon, he takes the bride’s father with him.
Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are on board as directors, the script comes from Dan Fogelman. The trio previously brought the comedy “Crazy, Stupid, Love” on the screen and teamed up for the hit series “Paradise” and “This Is Us”.
Hollywood producers have been targeting the film project “Honeymoon with Harry” for two decades. At times, directors such as Paul Haggis, Jonathan Demme and Nick Cassavetes were under discussion, as the industry newspaper “Hollywood Reporter” reported. Jack Nicholson, Robert de Niro, Bradley Cooper and Vince Vaughn showed interest as possible actors.
Western, action and Broadway
Oscar winner Costner recently worked on his ambitious western epic “Horizon”, which he largely financed on his own pocket. The planned four-part tells of the settlement of the American West during the civil war (1861-1865). Costner presented the first two parts last year, but they got away poorly among critics. Gyllenhaal was seen in the action film “Road House” in 2024. This spring he appeared in a new production by William Shakespeare’s “Othello” on the side of Denzel Washington on New York Broadway.
