Calum Scott becomes a comeback coach in the new “TVOG” season. In an interview, the Brit reveals what he connects to Germany.

The British pop star Calum Scott (36) becomes a comeback coach of the 15th season “The Voice of Germany” (on ProSieben and in Sat.1.). He competes against Shirin David (30), Smudo (57) and Michi Beck (57), Nico Santos (32) and Rea Garvey (52). In addition to the coaches on the red chairs, he wants to give talents a second chance and lead them to the final.

In conversation with the news agency Spot on News, the former “Britain’s Got Talent” star explains why the coach job can also be “the worst job in the world”, why he is looking for good chances with which colleagues he particularly harmonizes-and why he sees Germany as his second home.

You are back at “The Voice of Germany”, this time as a comeback coach.

Calum Scott: I’ve been a guest at “The Voice of Germany” a few times, once as a guest artist or as a mentor in the Mark Mark. I sang with all the finalists last year and then released a song with the winner Anny. I thought it was time to go one step. I kept telling you that I would like to have a chair and I thought Ronan Keating would give me his chair (laughs). But now they have given me the perfect role as a coach of the comeback stage. I can give people a second chance if all coaches have rejected them. I can look after these people and that is a real honor for me. But it can also be the worst job in the world.

Why?

Scott: Because I don’t just see talent through these doors. I see people. I see dreams. I see ambition. I see exactly what I saw myself when I was in Great Britain at the casting. It is hard to see these people who are disappointed if they don’t get ahead. And behind the camera I think: Without this opportunity, you have a whole world closed to you. I would like to continue to accompany these people after the show. So I would say that I’m a good coach.

Your experience with “Britain’s Got Talent” is also an advantage?

Scott: I have more experience in this regard than all other coaches. You have not yet gone through this process, so you don’t necessarily know what it feels like on the other side. Maybe that’s why it is the team Calum that it will make and win until the final.

Did you know this year’s coaches before?

Scott: A few years ago I sang with one of Nico’s artists. I have a great relationship with Nico, he was already a comeback coach. It is cool to have him as a friend on the show. I would have really wished that Mark Forster was there because I worked as a mentor and coach in Team Mark. But I also like Rea Garvey very much. And Team Fanta and Shirin are also great, I have great “The Voice” colleagues.

In addition to their TV appearances on German television, they also worked with German music stars like Felix Jaehn. Do you have a special connection to Germany?

Scott: “Special” is not an expression at all. Germany feels like a second home. I spent a lot of time in Germany on my last tour. I played three sold -out shows in a row in Cologne and was at many festivals, even in places where I have never been before. I have the feeling that Germany really accepted me and the fans appreciate that I am authentic and sincere, have no ego, have no mask and do not try to be someone else. I could well imagine living here at times and dividing my time between here and Great Britain. I also tried to learn something German, but that definitely has to be even better.
