The past year was not easy for the Norwegian crown princess – health and private. No big party is planned for Mette-Marits 52nd birthday.

The Norwegian crown princess Mette -Marit has turned 52 – a day after it became known that her son Marius Borg Høiby (28) had to go to court. As a spokeswoman for the Norwegian court announced, Mette-Marit celebrates her birthday in private.



Around a year after the emergence of the first allegations against the 28-year-old, the public prosecutor in Oslo raised charges against Høiby on Monday. In total, he is charged with 32 points – among other things because of rape, abuse in close relationships and assault. According to the public prosecutor, the court process will probably begin in mid -January 2026.

After initial allegations on assault and property damage, Høiby had admitted in August 2024 that they had become violent under the influence of alcohol and cocaine towards his girlfriend at the time and destroyed things in her apartment. Above all, he decided the accusations of the sexual offenses, but had said one of his defenders a while ago.


Høiby is the oldest of the three children of the crown princess; He comes from an earlier relationship. Together with the heir to the throne Haakon (52), Mette-Marit has two other children: the hereditary princess Ingrid Alexandra (21) and the Prince Sverre Magnus (19), who had recently moved to Sydney.




“It was really hard for us”


The scandal around her eldest son was not passed past Mette-Marit without a trace. In an interview by the broadcaster NRK at the end of 2024, she said that the investigation against Marius had burdened the royal family. “It was hard. You can’t call it otherwise,” said the crown princess. “It was really, really hard for us.”

The past year was also challenging for the crown princess. Due to her lung fibrosis, a chronic lung disease, she had to cancel appointments several times.
