“There’s no kiss at the end”

“Sleeping Beauty”, “Rapunzel”, “The Frog King” – director Susanne Schwab has brought together the best-known fairy tales and woven them into a play for everyone aged five and over: entitled “Once upon a time…” it will be on the studio stage on February 27th Promenade of the Landestheater Linz Premiere. The native of Wels, who has been a permanent assistant director at the Junges Theater since 2016/17, has already pulled the strings of directors in “Noah and the Great Rain”.

Schwab is not only interested in the fairy tales “the discrepancy between the often gruesome original and Disney adaptations”, but also the question: “What happens when fairy tale characters question themselves?” This is what happens in the background story of a prince who is looking for his princess because he should finally get married. But what if he doesn’t want to get married and the princesses aren’t what the storybook promises? Only so much can be revealed in advance: “There is no kiss at the end.”

In Karin Waltenberger’s design, “a magical magic mirror plays a central role as a gateway to another world,” says the woman from Grieskirch, who has combined historical details with the modern. Alexander Köfner and Karina Pele, Sofie Pint, Friedrich Eidenberger and Isabella Campestrini let you immerse yourself in the fairytale world. (cash)
