When asked how they feel after a “terrible, tragic year”, Aubrey Plaza answered openly: “At the moment I am happy to be with you. Overall, I am here, I work. I am grateful that I move back in the world. I think I’m okay, but of course it’s a daily fight.”

Grief feels like horror film

To describe their grief, Aubrey Plaza compared them to the new sci-fi film “The Gorge” (2025) with Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy. In the film there are figures on cliffs with an abyss in between, in which dangerous monsters lurk.

It was “a stupid comparison” and at first she meant jokingly. In the meantime, however, she is behind it, said Plaza: “When I saw the film, I immediately thought: This is how my grief feels … or something like that. She also described: “Sometimes I just want to jump in and be in it, then again I try to gain distance. But he is always there.”

At the time of his death they were separated

Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Baena married in 2020 after almost ten years of relationship. At the time of his death, the two are said to have been separated. A few days after his death became known, Plaza wrote in a statement that it was “an unimaginable tragedy” and asked for privacy.
