Cathy Hummels is a lion mother, so she put her ex-husband Mats in her place because he did not invite his son to say goodbye. That had consequences for him.
Cathy Hummels talks about the recent tensions with her ex-husband Mats Hummels as open as it is rarely before. In conversation with moderator Janin Ullmann, she describes in “Gala TV” how the football star not only invited not only her at the farewell game in Dortmund, but above all the shared son Ludwig. A behavior that bitterly disappointed her seven -year -old son, so that Cathy was forced to intervene.
While other families experienced Mats Hummels’ farewell game as a big moment in August, Cathy Hummels remained one in the memory: an injured child, his child. Ex-wife Cathy Hummels and son Ludwig learned from the last game in Papa’s career from the press. Both disappointed that they were not informed beforehand and also invited. Her son asked, “Why wasn’t I there? Why was I not invited? It’s strange,” says the 37-year-old.

Cathy Hummels: “I’m no longer in the football world”
Mats was Hummel’s professional player for 17 years. 13 of them was Cathy who stood behind him and strengthened his back. Today she seems to be out of this chapter: “I am no longer in the football world and we hadn’t spoken about it,” the ex-player tries to explain how the debacle of the lack of information could supposedly occur.
Cathy Hummels was angry for herself, but it does not find it less bad, but that her son was not taken into account. On Instagram she made it clear: “We were not invited or knew about it.” In the interview, she underlines that she was not about her own presence, but alone about her son: “He is so enthusiastic about football and BVB is the greatest for him-he even has a BVB logo in gold in his room-and my heart broke that. I didn’t think that was okay.”
She decided consciously about her public statement, she says today, with a clear intention: “(…) Maybe I also provoked it a bit, but I wanted him to apologize.” The former football professional did that and the topic was then completed for the patchwork family.
