Per Holst: Danish filmmaker is dead

Per Holst is dead. The Danish filmmaker died on Saturday (August 23) at the age of 86. This was confirmed by his son Anders K. Holst. A wife and four sons leave you.

“The film ended last night and you fell asleep peacefully,” wrote Anders K. Holst, according to “Ekstra Bladet” on Facebook. “I am proud and sad at the same time, but also very grateful that you went peacefully and under the right stars. I already miss you, but luckily you have left many wonderful and lasting memories,” continued the son of the deceased.

People also mourn publicly via Holt’s widow. “My best friend, my beloved husband for over 50 years, fell asleep peacefully last night,” she wrote on Facebook, according to “Ekstra Bladet”.

His career started in 1967 as a film producer. As a director, he directed the comedy “Walter OG Carlo” in 1985, one of the most successful Danish films ever. He shaped the cinema primarily as a producer. As early as 1984, he looked after the first feature film by Lars von Trier (69) with “The Element of Crime”.

Also in the historiepos “Pelle the conqueror” by Bille August (76, Miss Smilla’s sense for snow) was also involved as a producer. The film won the Oscar for the best foreign language film in 1988. “Per is one of the largest producers ever had the Danish film,” August praised him “Ekstra Bladet”. “He always gave a clever advice and had a special sense of films and stories.”

In 1993, the first part of the animated film series “Hugo the Jungle Best” brought the first part of the animation film to the cinemas. For his life’s work, he was awarded the two most important prices in his home country, the Bodil and the Robert.
