Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland demand Sting for royalties from The Police

Sting former leader and main composer of The Police has been sued by the guitarist Andy Summers and the drummer Stewart Copeland for considerable damage. This occurs after years of legal disputes between the group.

This is reported by The Sun, who cites a source that said that “this had been brewing for a long time.”

“The lawyers repeatedly tried to reach an extrajudicial agreement, but reached a dead point”they continued.

“Andy and Stewart decided that they had no other alternative than resorting to the courts, so they went to the Court. They say they are owed millions of lost royalties,” says the aforementioned portal.

It is said that the case has been registered in the Superior Court of London under the title of “contracts and general commercial agreements.” Sting (whose real name is Gordon Sumner) appears as a defendant along with his company, Magnetic Publishing Limited.

The history of The Police

The Police was formed in 1977, before dissolving in the mid -80s.

His classic “Every Breath You Take”, which appears in the fifth and last album of the band, “Synchronicity”was the best -selling single in 1983 and the fifth most selling of the decade.

Sting, who is attributed to being the only composer of the song, supposedly wins almost US $ 750 thousand a year in royalties only for that song.

A Sting spokesman denied that legal action was related to “Every Breath You Take”according to the article. However, he gave no more details about the case.

The Police has gathered numerous occasions in the past, and its most recent shows took place in 2008.
