Francis Ford Coppola will honor Werner Herzog at the inauguration of the Venice Film Festival

Francis Ford Coppola has been summoned by the Venice Film Festival to pronounce the so -called “laudatio” speech in honor of Werner Herzog during the opening ceremony of the event.

As already announced, Venice will honor the iconoclastic German director, whose work includes Aguirre, the wrath of God, Fitzcarraldo ”and Nosferatu El Vampire, with his Golden Lion 2025 to the trajectory.

The prize will be delivered by Coppola to Herzog during the opening ceremony in Venice on August 27.

Coppola was in Italy earlier this month, where on August 5 he underwent a non -urgent medical procedure in Rome, related to heart problems.

Programming and premieres at the Venice Film Festival

The festival will open with the Grazia of Paolo Sorrentinothat re -gathered the winning director of the Oscar with the actor of The great beauty, Toni Servillo.

In Venice, Herzog will premiere his new documentary Ghost Elephantson the search for a herd of elusive elephant in a practically uninhabited strip of the highlands of Angola, as extensive as England. Ghost Elephants is projected out of competition. Herzog will also give a master class on the lido. His next feature film is Fastard Buckingstarring the sisters Kate and Rooney Mara.

Coppola, five times Oscar winner, is instead the issue of the documentary led by Mike Figgis, Megadocwhich narrates its decades to create the self -financed project Megalopolis.

“Megadoc”, which opens in the Lido in the Classic Venice section, is described in the synopsis as “a portrait of the creative process of Coppola”.

Coppola received the Golden Lion to the Trajectory of the Venice Film Festival in 1992.

The next 82nd edition of Venice will take place from August 27 to September 6.
