Prince William and his wife Kate are planning to visit Jamaica soon. The deportation of criminals has now been suspended so that the trip is not accompanied by any disruptive noise.
He is number two in the line of succession to the British throne: if everything goes according to plan, Prince William will one day inherit his father Prince Charles, who in turn is set to ascend the throne of his mother Queen Elizabeth II in the near future.
Prince William and his wife Kate are already taking on numerous representative tasks for the crown. And so their next trip has an overarching goal: the couple will be heading to the Caribbean next month to start a charm offensive there. After Barbados seceded from the British crown last year, further states should be prevented from leaving the Commonwealth.
To this end, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge travel to Jamaica to make the British Crown palatable to the population. This mission should not be disturbed by any background noise. And so the trip is flanked by measures in the British homeland: As several media reports on the island, the planned deportation of convicted criminals to Jamaica is to be postponed until after the return of the royals. However, the British Home Office denies this.
Prince William and Kate travel to Jamaica
In the past, the deportation flights to Jamaica have led to disagreements between the countries: the deported offenders are people who came to the United Kingdom in some cases as children and have spent most of their lives there. Understandably, the fact that the government in London wants to get rid of these people so easily does not go down well in Kingston.
For the past few years, Britain has been deporting criminals to Jamaica once a year. These flights usually take place in February. The repatriation had to be postponed last year due to the pandemic.
This time there could be another reason: Prince William and Kate’s trip. The couple are planning a 12-day tour of the Bahamas, Jamaica and Belize to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.
