“I love writing about families; I think it’s what always attracts me. But nobody wants to write about happy people, it’s not fun. One wants to write about messy people who do messy things,” Williamson said about the series in an interview with the Variety portal. “I wanted to tell the story of a broken family that tries to rebuild, and why they have to do it individually and together. There are many secrets, a lot of resentment, a lot of trauma and much of the past peeking through the cracks.”
