Bruce Willis no longer in the usual home

Bruce Willis no longer lives with wife Emma Heming Willis and the children together. It was a difficult decision for his wife.

Bruce Willis (70) no longer lives with wife Emma Heming Willis (47) and her daughters Mabel (13) and Evelyn (11). In the “Emma & Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey”, Heming Willis said that he lives in a “second home” near her. There he is looked after by a nursing team 24 hours a day.

“One of the most difficult decisions”

“It was one of the most difficult decisions that I had to make so far,” said Heming Willis. “But above all I knew that Bruce would want that for our daughters. He would want them to have a home that is better tailored to their needs, not to his needs,” she said. Nevertheless, his two youngest daughters would visit the “Stirb slowly” star suffering from frontotemporal dementia and have breakfast together with him and eat it in dinner.

“When we come to visit, we are either outside or watch a film. It’s just about being there and being in contact with Bruce,” said Heming Willis. “It is a house full of love, warmth, care and laughter. And it is wonderful to see how many friends of Bruce are still there for him and bring and have fun.”

“The language disappears”

To his current state, Heming Willis said: “Bruce is still very mobile. Bruce is very healthy overall.” She restricted: “It is only his brain that lets him down. The language disappears. We learned to adapt and we have found a way to communicate with him, just in a different way.”

If she could ask him something, she would want to know from him how he was doing and whether he was doing well, Heming Willis explained to the corresponding question by moderator Diane Sawyer (79). “Whether there is something we can do to better support him,” she added.

Emma Heming Willis published book on the disease

In February 2023, Willis’ family made public that the drama star was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. A year earlier, Bruce Willis announced his career end due to aphasia, a language disorder. Since then, Emma Heming Willis has been shared again and again.

In the book “The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope and Yourself on the Caregiving Path”, she reports of her experience in dealing with frontotemical dementia and the challenges of nursing. It will be released in the United States in September, in Germany entitled “A very special trip” in November.
