Almost 100 years of party and glamor: While many clubs close, Armani gives a legend on the Tuscan coast a new chance. It is a matter close to his heart for him.
The Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani bought one of the oldest still active clubs in the world: the legendary “Capaninna di Franceschi”, in Forte dei Marmi, a sophisticated seaside resort on the Tuscan coast. The beach hut was converted into a disco in 1929 and has been considered a cult address since then. From summer 2026, the club is to live on Armanis.
As early as the 1930s, it was chic to sit and be seen in Capannina. The bar was preferred by nobles and intellectuals. Film stars, large industrialists and members of the royal family celebrated there later. Stars like Ray Charles or Grace Jones were on stage. A kind of Italian studio 54 on the Tuscan coast. In the 1980s, the cult film “Sapore di Mare” was shot here, symbol of the Dolce Vita of Time.
A matter close to the heart
After the death of long -time owner Gherardo Guidi last year, the future of Capannina was uncertain. There are said to have been several interested parties; Italian media speculated about bids of up to twelve million euros. But now the Capannina has a new owner with the 91 -year -old fashion designer.
Buying is a matter close to the heart for Armani. Forte dei Marmi is his heart, there he has had a holiday home for years. The acquisition is also a gesture of affection, explained the designer. In the 1960s he met his friend and later business partner Sergio Galeotti.
